Unwinding And Relaxation

The weekend is a time for unwinding and proper relaxation. Many of us sleep more, read books that are unrelated to work, drink or soak up on water, eat more healthy food, exercise more, and catch up with family and friends. All of these are therapeutic and good for the brain, mind and body. Sleep is also essential for brain functioning.

For instance, getting the right amount of sleep helps control our metabolism and weight, promoting stable moods: which improves mental health. Sleep further helps prevent cardiovascular diseases, boosts our immune function, increases knowledge retention, and helps us with long and short-term memory.

Reading books generally increases your knowledge- knowledge is power! A well-written novel can transport you to other realms. At the same time, an engaging story will distract you from worries and help you focus in the present moment, letting tensions drain away from your mind and allowing you to relax in a beneficial way to your health.

Drinking or soaking up on water is more beneficial than imagine. Scientifically, soaking up in water can burn up to 140 calories. Water keeps the body system functioning properly, such as:

  • carrying nutrients and oxygen to your cells
  • flushing bacteria from your bladder
  • aiding digestion
  • preventing constipation
  • normalizing blood pressure
  • stabilizing the heartbeat
  • cushioning joints
  • protecting organs and tissues
  • regulating body temperature
  • maintaining electrolyte (sodium) balance.

Eating healthy meals together with regular exercise is essential in maintaining physical and mental health and well-being. They help prevent excess weight gain or maintain weight loss, but healthier lifestyles are also associated with improved sleep and mood.

If you struggle with unwinding and relaxing, here are a few things you can do:

  1. Good beddings enhance relaxation;
  2. Read an inspiring book;
  3. Completely detach with a binge-watch TV series/programs;
  4. Bond with your family and friends;
  5. Go on a walk ; and
  6. Do a creative project.
